During the past couple of weeks LiftPort has used the still photo website of Flickr to promote the notion of the space elevator as well as the LiftPort Group. A wealth of photos that capture demonstrations, project development and day-to-day operations have been uploaded to Flickr and a Space Elevator group has been created to further promote the elevator.
Within the Flickr website, LiftPort has created four separate albums each hosting hundreds of images relating to the company. The first album entitled space elevator ribbon/lifter focuses on the Tethered Towers system providing a look into the technology, project development, preparation, and demonstration of the tethered system. There are some interesting photos of the four balloon system as well as of the robot during its ascent up the ribbon.
Designed originally as a test platform for the robotic lifters, it has been realized that these towers have significant commercial value for observation, communications and weather monitoring.
The second album entitled LiftPort contains general images relating to the company. The photos range from the LiftPort office, to various pictures of the team, to the robot as well as some of the company’s media interviews. The third album entitled tangentially related to LiftPort is just that. The photos, although interesting, are not extremely relevant to the elevator; serving more as a chronicle of Michael’s travels across the country while spreading space elevator awareness and promoting the LiftPort name. The Fourth album is called other space elevator and focuses on space elevator related material that is outside of the LiftPort umbrella.
The current lack of descriptions relating to the photos is something LiftPort
is tackling and each new image description will be posted in the LiftPort blog. Despite the lack of text
which will be posted soon, these four albums provide an interesting and
comprehensive look into the LiftPort Group. If you have a question about a
specific picture, ask it in the comments. Pictures with comments will be
prioritized to have descriptions added.
Along with the albums, LiftPort has currently created a space elevator group. This group will serve as a basis for all space elevator related material and more importantly as a medium for getting people involved with the elevator. Ideally the group will charter the progression of the elevator through images and content which will help fuel the creative mindset already vibrant within the space elevator community. People within this community will be able to share information through images and written content increasing awareness and knowledge of the space elevator.
